About James Loudspeaker UK
James Loudspeaker UK has been created to introduce and distribute American designed
and built speaker products from James Loudspeakers across the United Kingdom.
Unlike other speaker companies, James Loudspeaker was born from the custom electronics
design and installation industry. While other loudspeaker brands are designed and tested
to perform their best in anechoic chambers, James Loudspeaker's are designed to perform
in real world environments like your home theater or listening room.
James Loudspeaker has developed speakers of the highest aural caliber. Through real world
experience, engineering brilliance and design, the result is mesmerizing and unforgettable.
James in-wall speakers has established the highest industry standard for in-wall speaker
systems. Most with patented technologies and aircraft aluminum construction, James
Loudspeakers' offer a no compromise solution for music and home cinema.
The Adjustable Frequency Distribution Circuit (AFDC)
James Loudspeaker's patented Adjustable Frequency Distribution Circuit (AFDC) is the world's first and only continuously variable speaker output frequency equalizer. The AFDC replaces the conventional crossover network found in all other multi-driver speaker systems. The benefits of the AFDC include adjustability, compatibility and reliability.
With the turn of a single dial, the AFDC equalization curve allows the user to easily adjust the frequency output and tonal qualities of each individual loudspeaker to accommodate differing acoustical environments in which the loudspeaker system may be placed. This effectively tunes the speaker system to the room for optimal performance, rather than the reverse, which often requires adverse speaker placement and acoustical room treatment. The AFDC also accommodates a 'flat' setting with no equalization curve for optimum performance in an anechoic chamber or similar non-reflective acoustic environments.
The AFDC is a potent equalizer. Refer to Figures 1-4 for examples of different AFDC settings and typical frequency response curves. Notice that with the AFDC engaged, the lowest bass frequencies remain constant. The mid-range frequencies can be equalized as much as -18 dB and to a lesser degree, the high frequencies equalized as much as -6 dB providing a smooth frequency response and life-like in room performance.
Due to the inherent design of the AFDC, James Loudspeaker systems are relatively efficient with sensitivity measuring between 89 and 92 dB @ 1 watt @ 1 meter depending on Model. Speakers equipped with the AFDC are easy to drive and perform exceptionally well using modest power amplifiers. Minimum recommended power is 50 watts RMS. On the flip side, James Loudspeaker's do benefit sonically with the use of high output, high current amplifiers especially when operating at home theater or concert reference levels.
The AFDC protects the speakers from high voltage damage without the use of filters or fuses. In the history of the company, James Loudspeaker has not replaced a single driver for failure as a result of excessive power. For this reason, James Loudspeaker systems are not rated for maximum power handling capabilities.
Build quality
James speakers are sealed with hand welded, 6mm aircraft grade solid aluminium. This ensures that each
model has precisely the same enclosure volume, which results in a seamless timbre match
throughout.
Another benefit to this no compromise build technique is the fact that the speaker’s
rear casing remains almost indestructible and virtually impervious to traditional wall
problems like damp, mould, dust etc.
What crossover do I use?
While the traditional crossover point of 80Hz has its place in many systems. We design our
speakers as ‘full range’ and without the limits of this design. How many high end
audiophile speakers use an 80Hz roll off point? Answer: none!
